- Jonathan Creek is actually a real place in Kentucky, USA. David and his wife drove through it whilst on holiday,
and he stored the name away for future reference
- Maddy's fourth floor flat in season one was also the block of flats used in the series Crime Traveller
- The BBC were in talks with Alan Davies to play the part of Jonathan Creek, but he managed to clinch the role by turning up to a BBC Christmas party in his now famous duffel coat. The duffel coat is actually Alan's own coat!
- David Renwick wrote the part of Maddy for Caroline Quentin
- The BBC commissioned a second series even before the first on was aired in the UK.
- The distorted voice of the "skeleton" in Danse Macabre was actually provided by David Renwick!
- Director Sandy Johnson has made two on-screen appearances in Jonathan Creek: as a paramedic watching the frog being removed from Toby Flowers' windpipe in No Trace of Tracy; and as the man who is surprised to find Maddy in the Gents toilet in Time Waits for Norman
- The garage at the rectory in Danse Macabre was built specially for the show, from Cotswald stone, and then demolished again after filming was completed.
- The friend playing chess with Maddy in Time Waits for Norman is Steve Nallon, star of Spitting Image and legendary Margaret Thatcher impersonator.
- Cicada Park, home to Sylvester Le Fley (played by Bob Monkhouse) in the The Scented Room was actually Losely House in Surrey. However, the interior of the "Flemish Gallery" and El Greco Room were specially built at Pinewood Studios. As were the upstairs rooms of the Mother Redcap pub in The Mother Redcap.
- The shots of Maddy's house being knocked down in The Scented Room, were actually recycled from an episode of A Touch of Frost, because there were no suitable demolitions taking place in London at the time of production.
- In The Mother Redcap, the three Chinese hit men seen in Ken Speed's photographs, and later in the police cells, are in fact all the same actor.
- The character of Detective Inspector Gideon Pryke was name after Gideon Fell, a character created by John Dickson Carr. Carr is famous for writing over 50 locked room mysteries (both books and radio plays). The name Pryke was the name of freelance reporter in Luton who once interviewed David Renwick for a job.
- Maddy's house in season two was in Chelsea in a road off of the Fulham Road.
- The interior of Maddy's flat in season three was actually filmed in a studio.
- In Tasmania there is a TV reporter called Jonathan Creek.
- The castle in the 2001 Christmas special, Satan's Chimney is actually a composite of a number of locations and sets: David Renwick tells us, "Doomdorf Castle was, in the end, an amalgam of elements: genuine Scottish exteriors were filmed at Bridge of Orchy, into which we electronically placed our main location, Raby Castle just outside Darlington. The castle itself was enhanced, however, with turrets and spires from Glamis castle, also in Scotland. So the outline of Doomdorf does not in reality exist, but is a computer-generated composite. Castle interiors such as the dining hall and one of the stairwells were shot at Raby, and the dungeons, passageways and bedrooms all built as sets at Pinewood."
